Film Festivals
Not long ago, in an Express Milwaukee article Matt Astbury said "...there will absolutely be a 2008 Milwaukee International Film Festival...." Apparently he was wrong. With the staff fired by Louis Fortis and sponsors withholding funds, the Milwaukee International Film festival is apparently dead in the water. The new board, which is made up of the old board minus the Shepherd Express, will have a film showcase this year and return in 2009 with the new and improved festival. The group does not have a name or website yet, but if you are young enough to have a facebook account you can visit them under their working name Milwaukee Film.
A more detailed explanation of what happened with the festival was written by Mark Metcalf at onmilwaukee.com: part 1 - part 2 - part 3
